Abstract:

Biological effects of electromagnetic fields on the human body, animals and plants have been a subject of scientific interest and public concern for their risk on the living organisms such as blood leukemia and others. The high voltage transmission line and distribution lines are a source of electromagnetic fields, it’s found a lot and pass beside some houses and schools. This thesis presents two models of high voltage transmission line 220 kV and 500kV. To study the biological effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) produced by high voltage power transmission lines, MATLAB program package is used for mathematical calculation of the distribution of the EMF in human body under high voltage power transmission lines. The work includes experimental test cell. Two groups of experimental rats are used, one “exposed” and the other is “control”. The “exposed group” is put inside the test cell for biological effects of EMFs studies, “control group” are isolated from the test cell to compare both groups at the end of experiment. Blood samples from “exposed” and “control” group are taken every two, four, six and eighteen weeks. Blood analysis of G.O.T, complete blood picture and total serum proteins are taken to study the effect of EMFs on living organics of rats. Then comparison study between “exposed” and “control” group took place. Scaling study between human and rats is done based on differences in height, electrical field strength and time of exposed to estimate the biological effects on human exposed to electrical field. From the work done in this thesis it is concluded that, the blood level of SGOT of exposed group is higher than control group and this can affect liver, muscle tissue, kidneys, heart and red blood cells, the account of red blood cells (erythrocytes or RBCs) indicates that exposing to electric and magnetic field for long time may cause damage to red blood cells (leukemia), total serum protein in exposed group is decrease and this affect kidney, liver and heart, and for the comparison study the human exposed to electrical field of 37.5 kV/m for about 9.375 years this leads the dangerous biological effect.
