Abstract:

Abstract Substance abuse is a multidimensional problem that needs multidimensional solutions. It is a complex heterogeneous multifactorial disorder; no single cause could be identified nor single patient could be similar to others. Addiction has remained a major public health issues across the world. Aim: To evaluate addict patient's satisfaction and his social readjustment coping in different levels of treatment program. Design: An observational design. Setting: The study was conducted at inpatient and outpatient of private addiction hospital in Cairo City. Subjects: A sample of a convenience of forty addict patients were recruited from a private hospital; ten patients from each level of three levels of treatment, and other ten patients who completed their treatment one year ago. The tools of data collection were (1) semi-structured interview sheet, (2) international classification of disease (ICD 10) checklist, (3) satisfaction with life scale and (4) social readjustment rating scale.Results: The mean age of the study subject was 27.65±5.10 years. There were positive highly statistically significant correlations between satisfaction with life and addict patients at different levels of treatment in rehabilitation phase. There was a positive statistically significance difference between total satisfaction with life and work. However, there were not statistically significant differences between addict patients at different levels of treatment and social readjustment, while, there were positive statistically significant differences between social readjustment and age, education, social status, work and number of marriage. Recommendation: This study recommended the presence of psychiatrist, psychologist and social worker in all schools and universities for early detection and management of prone individuals and early cases of substance abuse. Increase use of therapeutic modalities which aim to increase satisfaction with life among addict patients and hence let them socially and return to take their roles socially in their works and among their friends and their families.
