Abstract:

The present study was desinged to explore the benificial prophylactic effect of simvastatin, pioglitazone, diltiazem, and pentoxifylline on the progression and development of nephropathy in STZ- diabetic rats models (Type I D.M) regarding to their effect on FBG level,24h UAE, Serum urea, serum creatinine level, GFR, RBF, Urine Flow (UF) ,Serum Na+& K+ and Na+ & K+ excretion. To study the prophylactic effect of these drugs on experimentally induced diabetic rats, 60 male albino rats were classified into 10 equal groups (6 rats in each group),1st group which is normal control group. Induction of Type 1 D.M was induced in all other groups by single intraperitoneal injection (I.p) of STZ 65 mg/Kg of experimental rats resulted in increases in non fasting blood glucose levels > 300 mg/100 ml after 72 h after injection and all injected diabetic rats are divided into 9 groups as follow 2nd group is diabetic untreated group,3rd group is SV treated diabetic where SV was administrated (10 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes,4th group is (SV +Pio) treated diabetic where SV was administrated (10 mg/kg P.O) and Pio was administrated (12 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes, 5th group is (SV +diltia) treated diabetic where SV was administrated and diltiazem was administrated (17.5 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes, 6th group is (SV +Pentox) treated diabetic where SV was administrated and Pentox was administrated (40 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes, 7th group is Pentox treated diabetic where Pentox was administrated (40 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes, 8th group is (Pentox +Pio) treated diabetic where Pentox was administrated (40 mg/kg P.O) and pioglitazone was administrated (12 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes ,9th group is (Pentox +diltia) treated diabetic where Pentox was administrated and diltiazem was administrated (17.5 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes and 10th group is diltiazem treated diabetic where diltiazem was administrated (17.5 mg/kg P.O) after development of diabetes for 8weeks study. All these groups were subjected to measure FBG level,24h UAE, Serum urea, serum creatinine level, GFR, RBF, Urine Flow (UF), Serum Na + & K+ and Na + & K+ excreation.
