Abstract:

Histological development of the dentation in the lower jaw was studied in Mabuya aurata. Dentation started by initiation of placode stage, and shows that the new end tooth forms of some distance from the former end tooth. The development of tooth initiation is associated with a very few cell division. Some teeth project from the jaw without any indication of a dental lamina. The teeth of M. aurata are a mixture of number, position and morphology in several reptiles.
