Background: Schizophrenia is a long-term mental illness that impairs a person'sfunctionality and quality of life. It is linked to emotional dysregulation, alexithymia, anddepressive symptoms. Psychoeducation focused on mindfulness has demonstrated efficacyinenhancing coping skills and emotional awareness. Aim of the study: To evaluate the effect ofmindfulness based psychoeducation program on emotional dysregulation, alexithymiaanddepressive symptoms among schizophrenic patients. Research design: A quasi-experimental
study with a study and a control group was conducted. Setting: The study was conductedat thepsychiatric inpatient wards of Benha City Psychiatric and Mental Health Hospital, QalyubiaGovernorate. Subjects: A purposive sample of sixty patients with schizophrenia was split
equally between the study and control groups. Tools: Four instruments were employed: I:
Structured questionnaire; II: Toronto Alexithymia Scale; III: Emotional dysregulationscale;
and IV: Beck Depression Inventory Results: There were statistically significant improvementsin Emotional dysregulation, Alexithymia, and Depressive symptoms among the studygroupafter the program. Conclusion: The mindfulness-based psycho-education programwaseffective in reducing levels of emotional dysregulation, alexithymia, and depressive symptomsamong schizophrenic patients. |
