Background: Chronic renal failure affected patients, frequently experience a variety of depressive
symptoms which reflect negatively not only on their marital satisfaction but also, all domains of
quality of life. Aim of the research: Study aimed to evaluate the effect of psycho-educational
nursing program on depressive symptoms and marital satisfaction among patients with chronic
renal failure. Research design: A quasi-experimental design (one group pre/post -test) was utilized
to fulfill the aim of the study. Setting: The study was conducted at dialysis unit at Benha University
Hospital, Benha city, Qualybia Governorate. Subject: A purposive sample of (50) patients with
chronic renal failure were taken from the above mentioned setting. Tools of data collection: Tool
(I): - A structured Interviewing Questionnaire sheet. Tool (II) Beck's Depression Inventory Scale
and Tool (III) Marital satisfaction scale. Results: Findings of the present study illustrated that there
was a highly statistically significant reduction in the severity of the total level of depressive
symptoms and improvement in the total level of marital satisfaction post program implementation
than before. Conclusion: The psycho educational nursing program had a positive effect on reducing
depressive symptoms and improving marital satisfaction among chronic renal failure affected
patients. Recommendations: Alleviating depressive symptoms and improving marital satisfaction
through implementation psycho-educational nursing program in all hospitals servicing all chronic
renal failure affected patients.
