Abstract:

Two field experiments were conducted on a clay loam soil during 1999 and 2000 seasons at the Agricultural Research and Experiment Center of the Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor to study the effect of different tillage systems including chisel plowing alone and in combination with moldboard plowing, N levels fertilization (zero, 80, 100 and 120 kg/ fed) with and without organic manure on yield and its components of maize and some soil characteristics. Results revealed that the combined treatment (moJdboard + chisel plowing) reduced the bulk density whereas, porosity percentage of the soil increased. Plant height, ear length, number of kernels/ row and weight of grains /ear were affected by tillage systems in 1999 and 2000. Leaf area, 100-kernel weight, ear weight and grain yield/ fed were affected only in 2000. The best treatment was that of moldboard + chisel plowing. Applying 20 ton FYM7 fed significantly increased plant height, leaf area, 100-keneI weight and weight of grain/ ear (in 1999 and 2000), ear length, no of kernels/ row and grain yield/ fed (only in 2000). Increasing nitrogen level significantly increased grain yield and yield components of maize. The maximum grain yield was recorded by applying 120 kg N/ fed. The best treatment was that including moldboard + chisel plowing combined with applying 120 kg N/ fed. Where the net farm return valued 1 182.62 and 1110.63 LEV fed in 1999 and 2000.
