Background: Parents of a child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder exposed to numerousdetrimentaleffects on their quality of life as well as the fulfillment of their emotional needs satisfaction. Aim: Assessthecorrelation between parental stress, emotional needs satisfaction and quality of life among parents of childrenwithattention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Design: This study performed by using a descriptive correlational researchdesign. Setting: Outpatient clinics of Psychiatric Mental Health and Addiction Hospital was usingasettingforthestudy. Sample: A purposive sample of 100 parents of children with ADHD was selected fromthe abovementionedsettings. Tools: Tool (1): A structured Interviewing Questionnaire Sheet, Tool (2): Parental Stress Scale, Tool(3):Emotional needs satisfaction Scale and Tool (4): Quality of Life Scale. Results: Findings showedthat halfofthestudied parents had high stress level and more than half of them have had moderate level of emotionalneedssatisfaction while less than three quarter of the studied parents had poor level of quality of life Conclusion:Totalparental stress, total emotional needs satisfaction and total quality of life were all highly statisticallysignificantnegatively correlated among the parents included in the study, whereas total emotional needs satisfactionandtotalquality of life were highly statistically significant positively correlated Recommendation: Involvement ofparentsin psycho- educational programs to lower stress levels, improve their parenting satisfaction and qualityoflife. |
