Background: Children with chronic renal failure are considered to have a significant problem
that affect on their quality of life and self-esteem negatively due to several physical and
psychological changes. Aim: Assess the correlation between psychological problems, self-esteem
and quality of life among children with chronic renal failure. Research question: What is the
correlation between psychological problems, self-esteem and quality of life among children with
chronic renal failure? Design: A descriptive correlational research design was used in this study.
Setting: Conduction of study at children renal dialysis unit, at Benha university hospital which
affiliated to Ministry of High Education, Benha City, Qalyubia governorate. Sample: A purposive
sample of (100) children with chronic renal failure were included in the study. Tools: Tool (1): A
structured Interviewing Questionnaire Sheet, Tool (2): Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale
(DASS), Tool (3): Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale: and Tool (4): Quality of life Scale. Results:
Findings revealed that less than two thirds of the studied children had moderate level of
psychological problems (depression, anxiety and stress) and more than half of them had low levels
of self-esteem and quality of life. Conclusion: There was a highly statistically significant positive
correlation between total of self-esteem and quality of life scales, as well as a highly statistically
significant negative correlation between total of psychological problems , self-esteem and quality
of life scales. Recommendation: All children with chronic renal failure should receive a psychoeducational program as important part of their comprehensive care to reduce their psychological
problems while improving their self-esteem and quality of life. |
