Abstract:

COLOR DUPLEX VISUALIZATION OF URETERIC JETS IN THE ASSESSMENT OF COLLECTING SYSTEM DILATATION IN ADULTS. ABSTRACT : Purpose : the purpose of this study was to determine if there is a role for color duplex sonography as a diagnostic tool in differentiating obstructive from non-obstructive collecting system dilatation. Method : Between July 2001 and July 2002, 50 patients withdifferent renal symptos wee examined by conventional sonography, coloduplexonography and intravenous urogaphy for dilataion of the collecting system and urtric jet in both affected and non affected kidney. The ureteric jet analysed as regard frequency, velocity, duration, direction and interjet intervals. Results : The detection of uretric jet is markedly diminished with the presence of calcular obstruction reaching to 11 / 20 %. The visualized jets reduce in frequency and velocity noticed. In the non obstructive dilatation of the collecting system the uretric jet detection as well as other parameters still reaching the normal value . Conclusion : uretric jet detection and analysis by color duplex sonography has plays a role in screening for dilated collecting system particularly when we add information reached by conventional sonography and Doppler study of the renal artery. So in one sitting and by one machine without radiation exposure and contrast reaction we can give proper idea about dilated collecting system wheather obstructive or non obstructive.
