Abstract:

This paper presents a method for simulation of the single-phase induction motor when it operates at different modes of operation (split-phase, capacitor-start, capacitor-start capacitor-run and permanent-split capacitor). The MATLAB/ Simulink software package is used to obtain the steady-state and transient performance of the motor when it operates at any mode. The simulation results were validated by comparing it with those obtained from using the conventional method of computation on the equivalent circuit in the steady-state condition, and with previously published results in the transient condition. It was found that the two sets of results are coincident in the steady-state condition and in very close agreement in the transient condition.
