Four land forms were identified using aerial photo-interpretation and field work. They were (1) the costal plain, having medium textured saline soils. (2) the main plain which included 4 subunit and having light to heavy calcareous soils. Salinity ranged from low to very high. Some of these soils were sodic and others were gypsic containing up to 38% gypsum. (3) The outwash plain having medium textured saline calcareous soils. (4) The foot-slope, which included 2 subunits each being devoted into 3 units. Soils include alluvial and colluvial with their inter-grades. Soils varied from non-saline to saline and from sodic to non-sodic.
Soils were also rated for their agricultural potential use and were found ton include three categories for agricultural use (to various degrees) i.e. grade II (good), grade IV (poor), and grade V (very poor), also include one category, grade VI (non-agricultural) not suitable for agriculture. The good soils being mainly in the main plain would be of practical use for expansion, the others would be of limited use (or no use)
