Abstract:

This paper deals with the effect of axial force on the shear strength of R.C. elements. The paper includes the effect of the different parameters on shear strength. These parameters are the ratio of axial normal force to the gross sectional area, the concrete compressive strength (F,u), the shear span to depth ratio (a/d), the ratio of longitudinal reinforcement ( JD), the yield strength of longitudinal reinforcement (fy), the compression reinforcement (p-) and the web reinforcement (ja,). The above parameters were studied experimentally. Forty beams were tested and the results, were analyzed. A general equation for concrete shear strength taking the effect of axial normal force into account was developed. The results of this equation was compared with those of previous works. Final Conclusion based on the research were drawn. 1.Lecturer of Structural Eng., Benha Higher Institute of Technology 2.Prof. of Concrete Structures, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University 3.Head of R.C. Department,Building Research Center, Cairo 4.Associate,Prof., Structural Engineering Dept., Cairo University
