Abstract:

The main objective of this research is to determine the role of governance on the relationship between uncertainty and opportunistic behavior, applied on some Egyptian ready-made garment companies. Through previous studies, the research gap was identified, from which the research questions were formulated, and based on them, a proposed model for research hypotheses was designed to clarify the causal relationships between the research hypotheses, relying on the structural equation modeling methodology, and the path analysis method to clarify the strength of the linear relationship between the research variables using the SPSS V.25 and SmartPLS 4 programs. In order to collect primary data, the researcher designed a questionnaire consisting of three scales represented in measuring supply chain uncertainties, governance, and opportunistic behavior, and the necessary tests were conducted to evaluate the validity of the models for measuring the research variables. The questionnaire was directed to department heads and employees in the purchasing, operations, and sales departments or in the supply chain management department of ready-made garment companies in the Mahalla al-Kubra area, and a Total enumeration was conducted for these departments, totaling 290 individuals, and the number of returned and valid forms for analysis was 239 forms, representing 82.4. The research found that:  There is a significant positive effect of supply chain uncertainty on opportunistic behavior.  There is a significant positive effect of supply chain uncertainty on governance.  There is a significant negative effect of governance on opportunistic behavior.  There is a significant effect of governance on the relationship between supply chain uncertainty and opportunistic behavior.  There is a significant difference between respondents' perceptions of the research variables according to organizational variables: company size, and company age. Keywords: Supply uncertainty, labor uncertainty, manufacturing uncertainty, demand uncertainty, opportunism, contractual governance, and relational governance.
