Abstract:

Two bio-control agents i.e. Trichoderma harzianum Rifai aggr and Bacillus subtilis (Ehrenberg) Cohn and some of agricultural chemicals [lime Ca(OH)2 commercial and sulfur (M-Sulfur, 70 W/W)] were used in two methods of application (tubers soaking and soil drench) to control of Sclerotium diseases caused by (Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc.) and their effects on vegetative, flowering characteristics and tubers formation of dahlia (Dahlia pinnata, L.) plants, as well as Rizolex T50 (as recommended fungicide) was used in these study during 1998/1999 and 1999/2000. All treatments decreased disease incidence by decreasing the percentage of pre- and post-emergence damping off and increasing survival plants. Rizolex T50, Trichoderma -granules and lime (powder) showed highest efficiency for controlling the disease than other treatments. Meanwhile, sulfur and Bacillus soaking were the lowest efficiency during the two seasons. Concerning the vegetative growth, all treatments resulted in significant increases in plant height, No. of leaves, fresh and dry weights of leaves, No. of branches and fresh and dry weights of branches per plant during the two seasons. Flowering characters of dahlia plants were affected by bio-control agents and agro-chemicals. Rizolex, lime (powder) and T-granules were effective for shortening the days for opening the first flower and improving the flower characters. Results of tubers characteristics exhibited that, Rizolex, lime (powder) and T-granules were effective more than the other treatments for increasing of No. of tubers/plant, diameter of tuber/plant, fresh and dry weights of tubers/plant during the two seasons. Except for diameter of tuber/plant in the second season. Concerning the chemical assessment, Rizolex, lime (powder) and T-granules gave an increase for chlorophyll a, b and carotenoids. Also the same treatments showed the highest increase of phenolic compounds (free and conjugated) and the lowest percentage for sugars content. Key words: Bio-control agents, Trichoderma, Bacillus, Sclerotium, Dahlia pinnata
