Abstract:

Urban heritage is one of the most important architectural themes of any city, reflecting how to deal with the surrounding conditions in order to meet the needs of users without affecting the surrounding environment. Also the principles of green architecture are one of the architectural concepts that emerged after the recent energy crisis in 1970s. The research aims to identify the concepts and principles of green architecture applied in open spaces in the architectural heritage field, especially those related to the religious buildings, and analyze some of these spaces as Al Hussein Square. The research concludes the main criteria that are taken into account in dealing with religious heritage spaces from the green architecture perspective. These criteria increase the efficiency and improve the performance to meet the needs of their users without negative impact on the surrounding environment.
