Abstract:

In many situations, the waste water can seep through the soil under or around the foundations and underground constructions. the seeping of waste water through soil may occur because no porportional attention is given to waste water collection . it has caused considerable damages of buildings and geotechnical properties of soil . these damages mainly depend upon the chemical processes between chemical constitutive of waste water and soil particles. this paper presents an experimental study to investigate the effect of domestic waste water on the deformational behaviour of fine-grained soil according to consolidation , expansion and shear . for purpose of this study , five remoulded soil samples are prepared and mixed with different amounts of domestic waste water by ratios 0,25,50.75 and 100% of constant moisture content (70%) . consolidation and unconfined compression tests were carried out for soil samples after 168 days from mixing day of soil with waste water . settlement , coefficient of consolidation , consolidation index , expansion and shear strength of soil samples were determined.
