Abstract: The aim of this pilot study was to assess the efficiency, pliability, contouring, memory and resistance to infection of absorbable plates in fixing reduced zygomatic complex fractures (ZCF). This study included 30 patients with ZCF, 15 patients (first group)fixed by absorbable plates and 15 patients (second group) fixed by titanium plates. Post-operative infection and residual neurological deficit occur only in second group, whereas some complications e.g ectropion occur more in second group. Absorbable plates and screws may come to represent the standard of care in management of ZCF than the titanium plates and screws due to many advantages as ease of application, no adverse reaction at the implantation sites, patient awareness of the plates was limited and very transient. Radiological scattered artifacts were avoided and avoidance of another operation to remove the plates with all hazards of surgery.
