Abstract:

Listeria monocytogenes is the most important food borne bacterial pathogens for sheep and goat. It infect central nervous system causing meningoencphalitis and nervous signs. We evaluated the combination of bacteriological culture and PCR method for the detection of Listeria monocytogenes infection in symptomatic and asymptomatic sheep. The real-time PCR showed no false negative result in any analyzed cases. The PCR methods showed positive result with the samples which collected from symptomatic sheep while culture method gave positive result only with two samples. The both methods gave negative result with all samples collected from asymptomatic sheep.
