Medical Achievement at Benha University Hospitals:  Saving a Child after a Knife Penetrated Her Skull

The neurosurgery team at Benha University Hospitals achieved a new medical milestone by successfully performing an urgent and precise surgery to save the life of a 5-year-old girl who suffered a life-threatening injury after a sharp knife penetrated her skull bones and reached her brain tissues.
This achievement was under the auspices of:
• Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University;
• Prof. Mohamed Al-Ashhab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals;
• Prof. Amr El-Dakhakhni, Executive Director of Benha University Hospitals,
• Prof. Islam Abu Al-Fotouh, Head of the Neurosurgery Department,
• Prof. Ihab Said, Head of the Anesthesia Department.
The emergency department of the university hospitals received the child in extremely critical condition. An emergency was immediately declared, and coordination among various medical teams was initiated to handle the case. She was quickly transferred to the operating room for urgent and complex surgical intervention that lasted several hours.
The neurosurgery team was able to extract the knife with utmost precision while preserving brain tissues and managing the serious injury's consequences, which contributed to saving the child's life and avoiding severe complications.
The management of the university hospitals confirmed the success of the surgery and the stabilization of the child's health condition, noting that she is currently under careful medical care in the pediatric intensive care unit, with continuous monitoring by specialized medical teams to ensure her recovery.
