Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, welcomed Dr. Maggie Nassif, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in Egypt, to discuss expanding academic and research exchange opportunities and to announce the scholarships and training programs offered by Fulbright Egypt.
The meeting was attended by prof. Gehan Abdel Hady, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; prof. Magdy El-Shehhat, Dean of the Faculty of Education; prof. Amgad Hegazy, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; prof. Magdy Meligy, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce; prof. Iman Abdel Haq, former Dean of Education and Director of the University's Language Center; prof. Abdel Fattah Selim, Executive Director of International Relations; faculty vice-deans, and a number of staff members.
Prof. El-Gizawy emphasized that the discussions focused on strengthening partnership with Fulbright and maximizing the university's benefit from its diverse programs. He highlighted plans to organize orientation sessions to raise awareness among researchers and students about applying for international scholarships, in line with the university's vision of openness to global academic institutions and enhancing competitiveness.
He further stressed Benha University's commitment to broadening cooperation with Fulbright, thereby creating more opportunities for faculty and students in postgraduate studies and scientific research. He noted that Fulbright programs are among the most significant international initiatives supporting higher education development and academic capacity-building.
Prof. El-Gizawy also underlined Egypt's dedication to ensuring quality education and expanding access at all levels. He pointed out that Egyptian universities are adopting innovation-driven policies, investing in the outcomes of education and research by transforming them into economic enterprises, and continuously updating curricula to meet the demands of the industrial revolution across disciplines.
Dr. Maggie Nassif expressed her delight at visiting Benha University and reaffirmed the importance of ongoing collaboration. She explained that Fulbright scholarships are fully funded, covering accommodation, health insurance, travel to and from the United States, and tuition fees.
Prof. Gehan Abdel Hady elaborated that Fulbright programs include scholarships for graduates, faculty, and professionals to pursue study, research, and professional training in the U.S. These encompass master's degrees, research grants, joint supervision for PhD candidates, as well as opportunities for faculty and researchers at universities and research centers.
The programs also feature postdoctoral research fellowships in all fields, MBA scholarships for leaders of Egyptian universities and research centers, the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship for professional training, and the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program for English language instructors.
She emphasized the importance of sustaining this cooperation to support scientific research, exchange expertise, and open new horizons for young researchers, in alignment with Egypt's national strategy for advancing higher education and scientific research.
